About Shawna Goes Outside

Hi, I'm Shawna!
I've spent over half my life traveling the world and getting outdoors, and I want to share my knowledge with you so you can feel confident in lacing up your boots and hitting the road to adventure in Ontario and beyond. This website is dedicated to inspiring and empowering YOU to get outside!

I got my first taste of international travel when I was 20, taking a two-week Contiki tour in Eastern Europe. It was my first time travelling to another continent, and I came home a changed person. I immediately started planning my next adventure - an 18 month solo backpacking trip that took me to 10 countries, including New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, and Southeast Asia.

I've continued to travel internationally solo and with friends or family, and I'm at 30 countries and counting! While I have been to several Canadian provinces in my younger years, it is only more recently that I've dived headfirst into exploring my own backyard - Ontario and across Canada. I've also fallen passionately in love with hiking, camping, paddling, and just generally spending more time in nature! My biggest accomplishment to date is section hiking the 900km Bruce Trail in Ontario, but I've also completed thru-hikes ("slack packing") in Peru, Thailand, and Ireland.

Here you'll find guides to local and international adventure, tips and tricks to stay safe outdoors, and share some of my favourite gear reccos. Grab your backpack and let's go!
